Hamburg - A relaxed evening
A fantastic meeting point for a tour in the evening to combine information with fun is the Landungsbrücken. We start there with a drink in one of the bars on the waterfront. While the evening gets off to a relaxed start, I’ll give you some information about the harbor, the Landungsbrücken, the Old Elbe Tunnel and the world of musicals in Hamburg. Of course, I’ll also answer your questions about the Speicherstadt and HafenCity. After this brief introduction, our Hamburg tour starts via St. Pauli Hafenstraße up to Davidstraße.
I talk to you about the occupation of the houses in Hafenstraße but also about the good reputation of the Bernhard Nocht Tropical Institute. This city walk covers various facets of Hamburg. Passing traditional pubs, we walk through Davidstraße towards the Reeperbahn. Now it’s time to get down to business: Herbertstraße, prostitution, pimping, it’s all there. Why did the red light district develop here and who was Herbert anyway? I will answer these and other questions on this tour through Hamburg’s St. Pauli district.
Hamburg’s smallest police station is located on Davidstraße and is popularly known as the “Davidwache”. Known from radio and television, it also plays a historically important role in the development of the Reeperbahn. The “Kiez”, as Hamburgers call the Reeperbahn, turns into a sea of neon signs in the evening: Sex stores, table dance bars, sex cinemas, travesty shows; everything can be found there. But St. Pauli also has a lot to offer guests who don’t want to visit such establishments: The Operettenhaus, various theaters, e.g. at Spielbudenplatz, bars and restaurants invite you to linger. To fortify ourselves for the evening, we will eat in a restaurant that I have previously selected and booked according to your ideas.
After lunch, our Hamburg tour continues along the Reeperbahn, past Hans-Albers-Platz. I’ll tell you about Hans and the Danish King Christian, who was once in charge here. After taking a few photos with the Beatles figures on Beatles-Platz, we cross Große Freiheit – where the name says it all. Yes, there’s almost everything here: the former Star Club, where the Beatles practically became famous, Olivia Jones and the concert venue Große Freiheit 36. But have you ever noticed the church? St. Joseph’s is a robust and continuous haven of peace between all the glitter, sex and alcohol. It is also a symbol of the great freedom that has taken root here.
On Simon-von-Utrecht-Straße, you will learn about Grünspan, one of the oldest event locations in St. Pauli, and the former Israelite Hospital, which now houses the St. Pauli Customer Center. From there, we’ll get a taste of Hamburg’s mountain air and find out how the houses used to be built. Of course, there are also plenty of opportunities to stop for a bite to eat. To round off our city tour in Hamburg, we try two Hamburg originals: the pub “Zur Ritze” and a Helbings Kümmel. What makes this pub so special? I’ll tell you, because it’s not just the legs at the entrance, but also the boxing cellar. You don’t know it yet? Then book me for a tour in Hamburg. Of course I will organize this relaxed evening according to your wishes.
